Valentine’s Quick DIY

Hi everyone! Sara here from Made by Sara blog for my monthly project. Valentines is just around the corner so I thought I would share a quick tutorial on how to make these cute cutout/see-through heart shaped pouches. You can use them for candies, small trinkets or love notes.

What you’ll need:

  • Felt
  • Clear vinyl
  • Ribbon
  • Hole punch (or snaps)

How to make this Valentine’s gift pouch:

1- Cut 2 4 inches x 4 inches squares of felt.

2- Fold one of the squares in half. Draw a half heart. Cut.

Tip: If you feel you can’t draw then just print a heart shape (there’s plenty on the web) and use it as a template.

3- Cut a 4 inches x 4 inches square of clear vinyl.

4- Sew the cut out square piece and the clear vinyl square together around the heart shape. Go slowly but don’t worry if it’s not perfect.

5- Sew together both felt pieces on three sides, close to the edge.

6- Punch two holes through all three layers on the top (not sewn) edge, about 1 inch from the sides.

7- Pick a ribbon and cut a strip of 15”. Tie it through both holes.

8- You can use up the cut out heart to make a cute name tag! Just punch a hole on one side and tie it to the ribbon with a knot.

You’re done!

Here’s a few more tips:

  • Use your gift recipient’s favorite color when you pick the felt to make it more personalized.
  • Set your machine with a decorative stitch when you sew all around the pouch.
  • Add some embellishments to the felt parts: buttons, sequins, etc.
  • You can also close the pouch with one or two snaps if you don’t have a hole puncher.

This is so easy and so quick that you can make a dozen in no time! And it makes such a cute pouch for your Valentine’s gift. Kids (and grown-ups too, why not) will love it!
