I’m so excited to be a part of the Raglan Sew Off! This is my first sew off ever and it was not without hiccups. If it could go wrong, it did. In the end, the ideas I had merged into an entire outfit (funny how that happens). My shirt submission is a very easy sew and creates a classic, beautiful look without a ton of work or cost!
Supplies:
- A doily – any kind, any size
- Scissors
- Pins
- Coordinating Thread
Cut the back of the shirt you are making. I used the Grand Slam. Figure out where you want to place the doily on the shirt. I used a fabric pen to mark the center and lined up the hole in the middle of the doily on the dot. Pin the doily in place.
Using a knit needle, sew slowly around the outer edge of the doily. Go slow!
Once you have gone all the way around the doily and it’s stuck down well, pull the shirt away from the doily and make a small cut. This is where I held my breath. Any missteps here and you could be starting over. Carefully pull the shirt away from the doily as you cut out the knit all the way around the inside of your stitches.
It should look like this.
Finish the shirt according to the directions and admire your handiwork.
And sometimes the stars align and photo magic happens….

So pretty! Love the idea of using a doily. Awesome!
