Today we’re doing a fun ruffle variation of the Racerback Dress!
To make this easy alteration I cut off the bottom 1/3 of the dress. Then I cut a ruffle twice the width of the dress and the length of what I cut off plus 1/2″. My ruffle piece was 58″ wide for a 4t. If you are doing a large side you can cut 2 pieces and join them at the side seams.
I didn’t take assembly photos but it’s pretty easy 🙂 Sew the short ends of the ruffle together into a loop. Then sew a basting stitch 1/4″ from the top edge and gather to match the dress width. Now you can attach the ruffle with right sides together OR you can just overlap the pieces and topstitch (what I did). You can hem the bottom edge or just leave it raw. Easy peasy!

I don’t understand the bands and binding numbers on page 6. What do the numbers mean? I plan on making View A with a plain front in size 4T. Page 2 says I need 1/8 yard of binding fabric. I don’t want to get started without all of the fabrics and items I will need.

I do not have a Rio, but I do have the Maui. Can I add a ruffle like that on a Maui? How do I make it look like a dress and not an oversized shirt?
The Maui is a bit wider fit so I would go down a size or 2 and then give it a slight a-line shape
SO fun!!! Love this….
