Classic Footed PJs Sew Along Day 3

Time for day 3 of the sew along! We’re going to finish sewing up today!
If you need a few days to catch up don’t worry 🙂
Day 1: Choosing a Size, Materials, and Cutting
Day 2: Zipper

Once you get your PJs finished up upload them to the Facebook album for your chance to win a $15 gift card to Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop!

On Saturday I’ll draw 3 winners at random and feature a few favs as well here on the blog. Can’t wait to see what you make 🙂

Yesterday we got our zippers installed and now we’re picking up on Step 15. Go ahead and sew up through step 20 (sleeves, feet and cuffs) and we’re going to talk about the neckline a bit

The pattern has recently been revised to give you a bit more finished edge so when you apply the binding it will actual extend past the edge of the zipper. Most store-bought pjs just go right to the edge so if you want to try that route feel free to give it a go 🙂 If you’re using a serger I think both methods work equally well

In step 23 you tack that extra bit down and now when you finish it up in step 24 this will be your nice inside view
 Pretty from the outside too!
You can be finished at this point or at the snap tab. I love having a snap tab on Will’s PJs (he’s 20 months) so he doesn’t strip them off in the night. For an older child I like to leave it off for easier potty breaks
 Hope you had fun sewing!!

  1. You mention the option of a serger in this post. Is a serger necessary for the pj’s? I just bought the pattern hoping to make them on my sewing machine as I am much, much more comfortable on the sewing machine than the serger, but it looks like your edges are done on the serger? Any recommendations, or tips would be greatly appreciated. If you think the patter is much better suited for a serger, I may try and challenge myself.
    Thank you!

    1. You can use a regular sewing machine just make sure you use a stitch that allows some stretch- zig-zag, stretch stitch, etc.
