Upcycled Henley Tutorial

A few months ago I participated in Sew in Tune and I’m just now getting around to posting the tutorial over here 🙂 My look was based on the Beach Boys song “Catch a Wave”
I made these outfits when it was still freezing outside but now that it’s summer they’ve been getting lots and lots of use! Anne’s hat is on it’s 3rd summer and we still use it all the time.
Both kiddos are wearing the 4 in 1 Sun Hat
And to go with it I also made a repurposed henley out of my husband’s cast-off shirt. Here’s the tute!
I made Will’s henley out of my husband’s cast-off polo.  I wanted a little something to keep the sun off our baby when he’s not in the water.
Cut 2 sleeves, a front and back and a neck binding. You also need to cut off the collar. I used my Ringer Tee pattern as the starting base but any basic tee pattern will work just fine.
With right sides together (RST) fold the neck binding in half and sew across both short ends and an angle. Turn right side out and press flat.
With RST sew both shoulder seams together
With RST sew the raw edges of the neck binding to your neckline. Then press flat and topstitch down with a zig-zag stitch (sorry no photo)
With RST sew the sleeves into the arm holes
With RST sew up the side seams of the shirt and the inseams of the sleeve in one continuous seam
Hem (or just leave it be. Knits don’t fray) and you’re finished!
