Red Riding Hood Dress Tutorial

Naturally Anne couldn’t just wear one of the 30 dresses in her closet. She really “needed” a Red Riding Hood Dress 🙂
And once I saw my amazing sponsor Fashionable Fabrics had some of the darling Walk in the Woods line by Moda still in stock there was no turning back

Red Riding Hood Costume Tutorial

Seriously how cute is this fabric??? I searched forever trying to find it online and it is sold out in every single store it seems. So if you want to snatch some up I would head over to Fashionable Fabrics before it’s too late
A walk in the woods Layer Cake by Aneela Hoey for Moda 18520LC.
Because as cute as her little cape is I’m sure she’ll take it off once we’re inside at our church party. Did you see the tutorial for the cape on Monday? If not head on over and get caught up 🙂
Now on to the dress!

1. I used a charm pack so to start with I arranged my squares and then quilted them together. One 5×4  piece for the front and one for the back. I ended up with 2 extra squares and I’d say I made a size 3. I used a 1/2 yard for the sleeves and lining in the basket

2. Now that the fabric is quilted you can cut out your front and back.
3. The sleeves follow the same curve as the armholes on the dress and have the same neckline curve as well
4. To keep the dress from being itchy I basted a lightweight lining to the backside
5. With right sides together sew your sleeves to the front of the dress
6. Then add the back (sorry no photo). Next sew up the side seams and arm inseams in one continuous seam.
7. Fold over the top edge of the neckline twice to form your casing. Topstitch along the bottom edge of the casing leaving a gap for the elastic
8. Thread the elastic through and sew the gap in the casing shut to finish the neckline. You can repeat this for the sleeves or just hem the sleeves if you like them wide.
Have a happy walk in the woods 🙂
