Reusable Snack Pouch Tutorial

For the snack toting gal {definitely me!} reusable snack bags are a must. So cute and you’re saving the planet:) 1 plastic baggie at a time right???
Here’s the secret to mine- reusable shopping bags! Yup my reusable snack pouches are made from a reusable shopping bag. It bit the dust, so I salvaged it for parts. Now that’s eco-friendly!
And it tastes good too:)
***You are of course the judge on food safety here. I figure if you can put your groceries in here then you can stick a snack in it. Seems at least as good as plastic to me, but it’s your call. I would highly recommend hand washing- I have no idea what the dishwasher would to do these
Ready to get started?
  • Reusable Shopping Bag: Marshalls & TJ Maxx have super cute bags!
  • Velcro
  • Snacks:)
1. Unpick the “bias tape” from the sides of your bag. Cut some rectangles to use for your pouches. Use the top edge of your bag with the nice finished look for your flap end. If you want the pouches to be lined then you need 2 rectangles for each pouch- the 2nd rectangle doesn’t need to be cut on the finished edge

2. If you’re going for the lined option (better for wet snacks like apples) then line up your 2 pieces and enclose both raw edges in the “bias tape” and sew it across the edge. Tack the top edge of the lining down just below your flap. If you’re not lining then just add the bias tape to the raw edge. Add your Velcro so that it will match up when you fold the flap over.

3. Turn the edges of the flap portion to the inside and stitch down.

4. With right sides together sew up the side seams. The bias tape edge should come up to just below the start of your flap.

 Happy Snacking!
