Paint Poppin’ Pillows

Thanks to everyone who voted! My Paint Poppin’ Pillows made it through Round 2 of Crafting with the Stars. Ready to know the secret behind these beauties?? Freezer paper stencils!

Easy, cheap, and fantastic results!
  • Old pillow to recover, pillow form, or fiberfill
  • Fabric (something heavy works best)
  • Freezer paper (in the grocery store by the foil)
  • Iron
  • Paint (I used a mix of acrylic and fabric paint. Both seemed to work just fine)
  • Velcro or snaps- optional
1. Cut out your design- I used a Cricut and the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge, but you can draw something and cut it out with a razor blade. Either way will work just fine. If you are doing letters make sure the shiny side of the freezer paper is facing down.
2. Iron your stencils onto the fabric shiny side down.

 3. Paint. Now be super patient and let it dry. If you don’t wait long enough your paint will bleed!

 4. Turn your pillow inside out and sew around the edges leaving a gap on one side, so you can fill it. (For this pillow I used fiber fill, so the gap isn’t very big. If you are shoving in a whole pillow I’d leave a bigger gap).

5. Turn your pillowcase right side out. Fold the raw edges from your gap inside the pillow and stitch down, so it’s nice and pretty. If you want these to be removable add some velcro or snaps.
6. Stuff your pillow and hand sew the opening shut (unless you did the velcro/snaps in the last step).
Enjoy all fall…
 and winter!
